Tuok Thla Mission

On a recent bicycle journey through Cambodia, I met Pastor Ieng Pros. Pastor Pros explained to me in very clear English that he needed someone to assist him with teaching the children at his church. He asked that I come to look at his church property, and so I agreed.

As we talked, the Pastor asked that I stay and assist him, but I explained that I could not, as I had other teaching commitments. I suggested that I may be able to help him in another way. I asked if he had an email address, or access to the web, and he told me he was just learning. I told him that when i finished my journey, I would make a simple webpage for him and his church, as I have done here, and explain his need to the Christian community on the Internet. He told me that as soon as he had an email address, he would write to me, but for now, he gave me his phone number.

Pastor Pros explained that he was praying for a native English speaking foreigner to come there to live and teach, if only for while. He explained that a person could come and stay at the church for as short or as long a time as they wished. He and his people would do all that they could to make their guests comfortable.

The church property is located just a few kilometers to the east of Sisophon, and about 500 meters to the south of Highway 5, opposite the landmark Buddhist temple on the hill. You can locate the area on the map below. Sisophon is a somewhat developed town, where you can find Internet and all necessary supplies.

If you would like to visit Pastor Pros and his church for any reason, he and his people will welcome you with open arms. Please contact me through my website if you have questions or need further information.

Finally, I would like to add that I have been traveling by bicycle through remote areas of Thailand and Cambodia for nearly two years. During this time, I have come across several struggling churches, orphanages, schools, and nonprofit groups in need of help. Native English speakers who are willing to teach are most in demand, because the ability to speak English empowers a young person greatly in the job market. You don't need to be certified teacher to teach English in Cambodia. Just the fact that you are a native speaker is enough.
